Watamu, on Kenya’s Indian Ocean coastline, South of Malindi, is simply spectacular, with the amazing beaches and coral reef alive with tropical fish. Watamu beach is a series of wide sandy bays separated by rocky outcrops forming large craggy rock islands dotting the bays; dark and jagged with narrow necks, they invite exploration. At low tide you can walk out to many of these strange isolated formations and explore.
Hailed for its picturesque scenery and pristine beaches, Watamu attracts both adventure seekers and those looking for a relaxing seaside holiday.
Surrounded by a verdant forest, Watamu provides access to the bays and beaches of the Watamu Marine National Park, a biosphere reserve that houses coral reefs, tropical fish, and rare sea turtles that come to nest on the sandy shore. There are many things you can do in Watamu, from snorkeling and diving among the colorful reefs, to exploring forest trails and trying out different water sports.
